2012 BIKES
GRAVITY
GRAVITYRiding down a hill on a bike is one of life's finer pleasures. The work is done, and now it's time to have straight-up, unadulterated fun. At Kona, we've been down with down since it started, and our 2012 collection shows it. From our all-new short-travel bike-park destroyer Entourage to the Honzo, a burly all-mountain Cromoly 29er; from the fast-emerging legend of the Operator's mega-plush durability to the best climbing freeride bike ever made, the CoilAir. No matter how you do your down, whether be it by lift, lung or a whole lotta air, we're the business. |
MTB TRAIL/ALL MOUNTAIN
MTB TRAIL/ALL MOUNTAINNo matter the complexity that tries to invade your day-to-day, there's a place where the rules are always the same. It's a place where effort is graced with reward, where the moment reigns supreme, and all the worry and want of the modern world is washed away in a tide of brown and green. It's called "trail," and we build some of the world's most incredible vessels for riding them. Ah, yes, the ways of the world are quite simple, especially when you're on board an expertly crafted mountain bike. |
MTB XC RACE
MTB XC RACEGoing fast on a bike is one of the most fun things you can do on earth. Wind in the hair, dirt in the teeth, lungs full of air, pumping legs, and a body full of endorphins comprises the essence of life on two wheels. At Kona, we've been racing bikes since our inception. Twenty-three years of stage races, 24-hour hammathons, hour-long criteriums, World Cups, National Championships and backyard sufferfests. It's in our heritage and our blood. The year 2012 represents the culmination of all that we've ever learned going hard on a cross-country mountain bike. |
29erIn many parts of the world, the big-wheel paradigm shift has already happened. For those where it hasn't, we aim to help usher it through. Make no mistake, the 29er revolution is upon us: great traction, incredible climbing and the ability to roll over obstacles are just a few of its attributes. Our US-based product development team is all about the big wheel. They crush buddies on Tall Boy Tuesdays then destroy the competition on Saturdays, leaving their mark on everything from technical descents to raging singletrack. Kona has embraced 29er bike design for the last seven years with a new long-travel dual-suspension Satori, a carbon fiber King Kahuna and an aggressive all-mountain Cromoly Honzo in the lineup for 2012, and our big-wheel offerings have never been so, well, big. |
CYCLOCROSS
CYCLOCROSSIt just so happens one of Kona's original founders is named Jake. It just so happens Jake is Dutch, and he grew up racing road and cyclocross since he was a wee lad. So it makes sense that Kona has a long history of making fast, race-ready cyclocross bikes; our Jakes have been winning National Championships around the world for a good many years. For 2012, we bring all that we've learned riding cross into a focused group of bikes that can do it all. We've helped Kona Team Cyclocross racer Helen Wyman to a number three world ranking, and we're here to help you ride wherever you may roam. |
ROADAt Kona, we like to do road a little different. We're not a pro tour bike company, nor do we have a wind tunnel. We do, however, ride a lot of road. We ride it to work, we ride it around mountain ranges, we ride it in the shoulder seasons, and we ride it across massive swaths that span entire countries. We ride road because it helps us go faster on our mountain bikes, and we ride it just for the pure joy of spinning out the most efficient machine ever invented. For 2012, we offer a unique collection of perfectly refined, application-specific road bikes that find beautiful balance between comfort, material, price and aesthetic. |
ASPHALT
ASPHALTIt's been called a "19th-century solution to a 21st-century problem." The bicycle. When we mount one, human beings become the most efficient animals on the planet, subsequently making the bicycle the most efficient machine on the planet. The calories in one apple alone can move us miles. At Kona, we live and breathe the inherent power of our "Noblest Invention." It's an agent of change, a way to confidently move forward towards a brighter tomorrow. In essence, the bicycle represents freedom: the freedom to move, to travel, to feel good, and most importantly, while having fun along the way. |
WOMEN'S
WOMEN'SStrong. Intelligent. Fearless. Confident. Spirited. Connected. In tune. Into it. At Kona, we're into her. Her story. Her odyssey. Her way. Her time. Her ride. New for 2012, the most complete and refined collection of women's bikes we've ever designed: the Kali, Lele, Tika, Mina, Mohala and Roundabout. Six bikes, six different adventures, all geared to be the ride of your life. |
KIDS'We were all kids once, and many of us still are. What were the two things we wanted most? Respect. And candy. It was all that mattered. Well, at Kona we love our kids. So much so that we give them what they want. Respect comes in the form of well-thought-out bikes designed and built to ride far and fast. Candy…well, one look at any of these beauties and your kid's going to want a bag full. |
